Charles Erven is a playwright and director whose plays include The Ballad of Chet (On the Eve of His Bliss), Canyon Suite, Glynn’s Crossing, Painting Landscapes, Counting Tree Rings, and The Private Lives of Primates. His play Painting Landscapes was nominated for the David Mark Cohen award in 2001. Canyon Suite was one of the top three national picks for the 2005 David Mark Cohen playwriting award. His most recent play, The Ballad of Chet (On the Eve of His Bliss) premiered in 2011 and was the finalist for the 2012 Kennedy Center award. Charles’ plays have been produced at various places including the BoarsHead Theatre in Lansing, Michigan. In 2006, he was the John Wall Playwriting Fellow at the Sewanee Writers Conference at the University of the South and in 2009 Charles was nominated by the Kennedy Center as a “Teaching Artist.” Charles teaches playwriting and performance at Fresno City College.
